What is a Distributed Antenna System?

In its purest form, a distributed antenna system (DAS) is a way to deal with poor coverage inside a large building by installing a network of antennas throughout the building to serve as repeaters. Why is this important to you?

What does a Distributed Antenna System Do for You?

DAS enables emergency responders and cell phone users to communicate at all times from inside a building. Today's construction utilizes a sustainable approach by using Low E Glass and reflective insulation. A good thing. Unfortunately, it is also inhibiting radio frequencies from penetrating buildings that they usually would have in the past. This isn’t the cellular carriers problem it’s a construction change in focus. Fidelis has a solution.

Did You Know:

  • All new buildings should have approved radio coverage for emergency responders within a building.
  • Radio signal strength requirements must be met in 95% of all areas on each floor of the building.
  • All existing buildings should have radio coverage throughout the building and are required to retrofit the building with radio coverage if the current wired system is not able to be repaired or is being replaced, or per a timeline, as identified by the jurisdiction.

From DAS Simplified

Blocked radio reception is terrible for first responders specifically. They depend on unobstructed communication to ensure the safety of themselves and others in emergency situations. 9/11 highlighted the need for reliable radio coverage in large buildings.

"The global DAS market is forecast by Infonetics to grow at a 3% CAGR from 2013 to 2018 when it will top $2.3 billion, and node unit shipments will pass the 2-million mark" - Infonetics’ biannual DAS equipment report

Fidelis Has a DAS Solution!

Fidelis is currently in the design stage of installing DAS for Mason General Hospital in Shelton WA. We will be updating our website and posting pictures throughout the project for anyone who may be interested. Stay Tuned!!
