What do all of those initials and letters stand for? – IT Support Acronyms
Are you confused by all of the acronyms used these days when working or talking with your IT support folks? Do you get confused when discussing your LAN, internet, WAN, emails, and office support programs? Do you know what your LAN (Local Area Network) or WAN (Wide Area Network) is? Don’t worry, you’re not alone!
It’s easy for people who are in the industry to get caught up in the everyday usage of these terms, and maybe lose sight of the fact that for the layperson, these things can be a bit intimidating. We strongly recommend and encourage clients to engage their support staff in dialog that will help to shed some light on these things being discussed and addressed. Although you may not become a certified IT expert with just a few questions, you can at least gain a basic understanding that may make the experience feel not so confusing.

Did you know – There’s a difference between Acronyms and Initialisms?
Acronyms are abbreviations where the abbreviation is formed from letters of other words. The resulting abbreviation needs to be pronounceable as a word. An example of this would RAM (Random Access Memory).
Initialisms are made up of the first letter of each word as well. The difference with initialisms is you say the individual letters, such as DVD (Digital Video Disk*).
