So what is the Office 365 Enterprise Skype for Business PSTN Solution?
First and foremost it’s the complete Office 365 for Business (Enterprise) solution including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Skype for Business and Access. The big news is that the E5 Enterprise license includes a business phone solution!
Business Phone Solutions
Today there are two ways you can implement the PSTN (public switched telephone network) functionality of Office 365 Enterprise. Cloud PBX with on-premise PSTN and Microsoft Business Server or using a Cloud Connector with no on-premise server deployment. Below are some brief descriptions of both. Please feel free to call Fidelis for more information and pricing.
PSTN Calling – allows users of Office 365-hosted Skype for Business to make calls to and receive calls from regular phones and phone numbers. Microsoft acts as your carrier and can port your existing phone numbers or assign new phone numbers (DIDs).
Cloud PBX – provides more advanced call control features such as hold, resume (take people off hold), forward, transfer, simultaneous ring, team ring and delegation. This feature set will grow over time. There are a couple of flavors of this such as: Cloud PBX with on-premise PSTN connectivity in Skype for Business Server and hybrid voice with no on-premise server deployment also referred to as Cloud Connector.
Other Business Solutions
PSTN Conferencing – allows Office 365-hosted audio conferences to include participants who dial in from ordinary phones. PSTN Conferencing also allows you to dial out to bring participants into a meeting. Without PSTN Conferencing only participants within your company or at federated organizations can join conferences.
Skype Meeting Broadcast – enables broadcasting a Skype for Business meeting to up to 10,000 participants. Participants can attend using a browser-based application on almost any device. This is a one-to-many webcast. Note there are no limits or additive costs for unauthenticated attendees of a Skype Meeting Broadcast, nor is there a per-meeting charge. If you want to have the participants authenticated, then those participants would require a license.
