Design Service – RCDD

The Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD®) credential is awarded by BICSI to individuals who have demonstrated knowledge in the design, integration, and implementation of telecommunications and data communications transport systems and related infrastructure. The RCDD credential is achieved by passing a comprehensive exam based on BICSI’s world-renowned Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). RCDDs must meet stringent continuing education requirements and continually increase their knowledge through frequent interaction with others in the information transport systems (ITS) community. An RCDD is uniquely positioned to create the detailed design of new systems and/or the integration of a design into an existing system. The RCDD credential is globally recognized within the ITS industry.

Here is how Fidelis RCDDs can help design, install and certify Information Transport Systems and Structured Cable Solutions:

  • RCDDs distinguish themselves from the competition with their globally-recognized credential.
  • RCDDs assist in providing flexible, scalable, future-ready transport systems.
  • RCDDs are required participate in an ongoing education program designed to accommodate new and emerging technologies.
  • RCDDs are requested by end users/architects/general contractors
  • RCDDs add value to your business with properly designed and installed infrastructure assets.
  • RCDDs maximize the infrastructure return on investment (ROI).
  • RCDDs have regular access to a network of ITS professionals, subject matter experts (SMEs) and global resources.
  • RCDDs provide project management services for a proper design, ensuring a more successful infrastructure installation.
  • RCDDs assess their customers’ present and future needs and facilitate other appropriate Information Technology specialties/services.
  • RCDDs coordinate with appropriate building discipline (i.e., electrical and mechanical).
  • RCDDs are tested on their ability to apply best practices in a global industry.

  • How many RCDDs does Fidelis employ
    • Two
  • How many hours of continued education must an RCDD have?
    • 45 hours in a three year period and one annual BICSI conference.
  • What is an RCDD?
    • Registered Communications Distribution Designer
    • Established in 1984, the RCDD is the most prestigious of all BICSI credentials. RCDDs have demonstrated the ability to design, integrate and implement ICT and related infrastructure components across multiple disciplines and applications.
  • What does it take to be an RCDD? Prerequisite Requirements
    • To sit for the RCDD examination, you must first have five years of information and communications technology (ICT) industry design experience within the last ten years.
    • Letters of reference
    • The Exam - The examination is drawn from BICSI’s Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM).
  • Did you know that the RCDD is a U.S. Department of Defense requirement?
    • Page 3 of the Department of Defense UFC lists the RCDD as a requirement for all telecom design projects. View the UFC here.
  • When should an RCDD be brought into the building design process?
    • An RCDD has been taught the importance of achieving an efficient, cost-effective, future-ready system, no matter what the stage of the project.
      • Initial Planning Stage: An RCDD has learned how to create a smart design, evaluating the proper amount of space needed today and for years to come. By minimizing costly change orders, an RCDD can save you valuable time and money.
      • Mid-project: RCDDs who manage the infrastructure installation can guide the design so that it is followed correctly and make any necessary modifications as needed.
      • Project Completion: An RCDD adds credibility to a project by signing off when the project is complete.
